Five Ways of Getting the Most From Your Computer

1. Restart your computer every morning.

A fresh restart to your device each morning can work wonders! Think of how you feel when you stay up all night. Not so great? Your computer operates the same way! Turn it off and then back on.

2. Keep your computer plugged into a power source.

When your computer runs on the battery, it tends to slow down certain processes!

3. Make sure your Internet speed is fast enough.

Internet speed can play a major factor in how your resources run. Your Internet speed should be at least 5 megabits per second. The faster the Internet, the faster your computer will respond. Make sure your WIFI is working properly. Check your Internet speed at Fast.com.

4. Don\’t have more than four tabs open at a time.

Having too many tabs open on your browser can cause things to go awry fast! One or two tabs open will keep things running smoothly. The more you open, the more likely your computer will slow down and crash.

5. Close down programs running in the background.

If Word, Excel, or any other programs are open, this slows down your computer. You need to shut down all the unneeded programs you have running in the background to achieve maximum processing speed. Here’s how:

For Macs

Press the Command and Tab keys simultaneously to see icons of the programs running in the background. To obtain maximum computer speed, close all these programs except the browser you are using for Quaver. Hold down the Command key and Tab to the icon of the program to be deleted. Then still holding the Command key down, press the Q key and release both.

Repeat the process for the other programs, holding down the Command key and pressing the Q key. Note, you cannot delete the Finder program.

For PCs

To close programs running in the background on PCs, press the Alt and Tab keys simultaneously and hold them down. A window will pop up with all the icons of the programs. Move your mouse over the icons, right click, and select “close”. Don’t close the browser where Quaver is running! On some PCs, you can start your mouse in the upper left corner of the screen and run it down the left edge, to see the icons of all your programs running. Right clicking on any of these icons will allow you to close these programs.

How do I troubleshoot common video/audio issues?

Video

Some IT departments block all videos. Make sure your IT Department has not done this. If they have, ask them to unblock videos for all Quaver websites.

The Quaver video player has been designed to adjust to your internet speed by streaming videos at different resolutions. You can check the Options, located in the lower right-hand corner, on the video player and actually see your internet speed and the quality of the video being streamed.

If everything else seems to be working except your videos, your computer video processor may be overloaded. You need to shut down all the unneeded programs you have running in the background to achieve maximum processing speed. Here\’s how to do it.

What do I do if I lose internet access?

First things first, stay calm! This is a normal issue in most classrooms, and you are a music teacher experienced in improvisation!

We recommend contacting our Customer Service team via the form below when your Internet goes down or by calling 866-917-3633. Our Customer Service Gurus are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m-6 p.m CT and are ready to assist!

If you’re a user of Quaver’s Curriculum resources, you should have received a Quaver Unplugged flash drive in year one of your license. This includes backup resources intended for just this situation. We recommend having the contents of Unplugged (mp3 tracks, PDFs of each lesson, worksheets, and more) saved on your computer for easy access without the internet. If you aren’t sure about your Unplugged kit, please contact our team via the form below.

ClassPlay users may wish to prepare for a possible outage by downloading PDFs of lyrics sheets, song sheets, and manipulatives from the Printables section of your students’ favorite songs. If you’re a user of Quaver’s Essentials program, then the DVD episodes and manipulatives provided will be a great backup plan until the internet returns.

What do I do if I click a button and nothing happens?

If clicking a button in the Curriculum should open a new window – for instance in ClassPlay or Bach’s Brain or a Lesson Plan – and nothing happens, then it’s likely that your browser is blocking pop-ups. You should see a message regarding the pop-up at the top or bottom of your screen. Choose to allow pop-ups at all Quaver sites, or find specific instructions for your browser at QuaverMusic.com/PopUp

What Happened to the QStudent App (QuaverMusic.com Users Only)?

There have been a lot of exciting changes and updates happening at QuaverMusic.com. One of these changes involves our QStudent App. This app was used in the past to make mobile-friendly content easy for students to access. As of this August, it’s no longer needed! Because of this, we are in the process of removing the QStudent App from all app stores.

Why Is the App Being Retired?

We are retiring the app simply because it is no longer the most efficient way to deliver this content to students! As we have transitioned out of Flash, many of the functions of the app are now handled directly in your mobile browser. If your student has a QuaverMusic.com account and is using a mobile device, they can now go straight to QuaverMusic.com in their browser to access their Student Dashboard.

How Do I Replace the App’s Functionality?

Let’s review the previous functionality of the Student App and the ways you and your students can complete the same functions now!

Taking Assessments

When your Curriculum Assessment is in Teacher-Guided mode, your students can now select their answers directly from their browser on any mobile device. Instruct students to simply click the green TAKE A QUIZ button on their Student Dashboard.

Join A Class

In the same way, students can join a new class directly from their Student Dashboard. Instruct students to click the blue JOIN A CLASS button to continue.

Scanning QR Codes

Looking for a QR Scanner? You can download a separate app for that in the App Store! Simply search “Quaver QR Scanner” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download! Many smartphones cameras now also scan QR codes automatically, no app required! Give it a try.

Viewing Student Avatars

“Students can still view their lovely, personalized avatars on mobile by logging in to their account at QuaverMusic.com. To edit the avatar, they’ll need to login on a Flash-enabled device, then click on the avatar on Quaver Street. This functionality will be out of Flash by the Fall of 2020.

Accessing Student Interactives

Student Interactives are now mobile-friendly on any browser! Students just log in to QuaverMusic.com on any device and access the full menu of Student Interactives right from their Student Dashboard.

Play Virtual Instruments

While the specific QDrum and QPiano apps from the QStudent App are no longer available, students do have access to three new Lite Creatives – QComposer Lite, QBackBeat Lite, and QGrooves Lite. These are located on their Student Dashboard when they click Creatives and offer great options for simple composition and creativity!

As we continue to phase the QStudent App out of the store, stay tuned for updates to the process. This positive change is just one more part of our ever-growing and improving curriculum and curriculum resources.
